As I was pulling carrots last week, I was reflecting on how far we have come in their cultivation. It took us a few years of trying to get a decent carrot out of our relatively shallow soil, but as the soil structure, depth and fertility has slowly improved, so have the carrots - the current crop is easily the best yet! And the cold weather is just making them sweeter!

But we still struggle a bit with germination, and I (Rod) sometimes struggle to keep up with the planting schedule, so there are gaps in production. Sorry to all our carrot loving customers - we are getting better!

Bellingen Farmers and Producers Market

Last Wednesday was our first day at the Bellingen Farmers and Producers Market. Much thanks to the lovely Louise who does an amazing job of organising this market and who also made us feel so welcome. 

Despite being cold, and our fellow marketeers commenting that it was a slow day, we had a wonderful time and look forward to many more market days at Bello. If you know anyone up Bello/Coffs way that might be interested in finding us there, please pass this on to them.
