What to do while you wait...

We are very impressed with how many of you have ordered seedlings to grow your own veggies! It is such a rewarding thing to do.

We have planted your seeds, and your seedlings are just two to three weeks away, or less in some cases. Sometimes waiting can be hard so here are a few suggestions/tips what to do while you are waiting:

  • Have your garden beds formed and ready to put your seedlings in the day or day after you get them
  • Incorporate some compost or fertiliser into your soil now to give the soil chemistry/biology  time to stabalise so when the seedlings are planted they have access to plenty of available nutrients
  • Water your soil regularly - yes your neighbours will think isolation has gotten to you, but this will help germinate weed seeds so you can deal with them now before you transplant your seedlings
  • When you are ready to transplant your seedlings, choose a cloudy day if possible, or do it in the late afternoon. Water them in well, STRAIGHT AWAY, and repeat it a couple of times a day for 2 or three days to minimise transplant shock and wilting.
  • Decide how caring for your new patch wil fit into your daily routine. Early mornings or late evenings are often the most pleasant times to check on your new best friends...

Remember that gardens are a lot like relationships - they flourish on small attentions oft repeated. Maybe you can practice this principle in your relationships while you wait for your seedlings. 😉

PS Seedlings will be available on an ongoing basis - place an order, and you will recieve your seedlings when they are ready to go!
